Christmas Carols & Las Posadas

December 4, 2015 by Saint Anne School

December is here and to celebrate the Christmas Season we invite all Saint Anne School families and friends to join us for a night of Christmas Carols and Las Posadas. In this celebration figures representing Mary and Joseph take part in a procession that goes from door to door guided by the angel seeking posada, or lodging. The word posada literally means a place where one can posar (rest). The traditional song of Las Posadas is a series of responsive verses sung between a group of pilgrims asking for lodging, and innkeepers turning them away. After several stops, Joseph and Mary finally find shelter.  Each grade has also prepared a traditional Christmas song to perform at the event. Following the performances there will be a celebration, including tamales, hot chocolate, and pan dulce (sweet bread) as well as piñatas and goodie bags for the children. We hope to see you all in attendance and together as a community we will celebrate the season with song and prayer.

  • Every family is asked to contribute $5.00/per student for food and beverages, please send this in a sealed envelope with your oldest child.
  • Students who attend the event dressed as shepherds, wise men, angels, Mary, Joseph or even Santa Claus will earn a Free Dress Pass.
  • Volunteers are needed to help stuff Piñatas with candy, fill goody bags, and to prepare and serve the food and beverages.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Mary Contreras at macontreras2909@yahoo.com or by phone at (818)441-1445
