Curriculum Overview
Saint Anne School provides a comprehensive Kindergarten through 8th grade curriculum as stipulated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and according to California State Standards in the following subjects: Mathematics, English, Reading, Spelling, Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, Religion and Physical Education.
Curriculum Enhancement
Music: Our school-wide music program includes music instruction for all grade levels, as follows: Orff Instruction for grades K-3, violin instruction for grade 4, woodwind (recorder instruction for grade 5), advanced woodwinds instruction in a choice of flute, clarinet or saxophone in grade 6, and guitar and voice classes for grades 7-8. Instruments are provided for school and home use for all pupils at no charge. Additional instrumental music lessons are available after school.
SMART Board and Computer Technology: Saint Anne School has SMART Board technology available in all classrooms at all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 8 (final classroom installation scheduled for completion by the end of March 2010). SMART Technology is an interactive, whiteboard representing the cutting-edge of teaching and learning technology. (Information available at www.smarttech.com). There are also four desktop computers in each of the classrooms, and a thirty-Computer Learning Lab. All grades visit the Computer Learning Lab a minimum of twice per week, and the Computer Learning Lab is open for use with supervision as a part of our After School Program. We have an extensive software library and school-wide internet connectivity.

Grade 8: Algebra classes are provided for 8th grade students who qualify.
Grade 6: Advanced Literature study is provided for 6th grade students who qualify.
PS Science: A hands-on science program developed by Crossroads School's Community Outreach Foundation for grades 1–4.

UCLA Environmental Science Project: 7th and 8th grade students collaborate with UCLA graduate engineering students
to test local beaches and oceans for bacteria, analyze and study results and present findings to UCLA students and faculty
and to Santa Monica City Council.
UCLA Online Math and Science Tutoring Program: Middle school students have online access to a UCLA Engineering
School graduate student for homework assistance in math and science.
Mountain High Math and Language: Excellent cyclical review programs to reinforce core content of Math and Language.
Art History: Enrichment in art history instruction tied to California State standards is provided in Grades 3-5 through art history
educators in conjuction with Arts Matters, a non-profit arts education organization.
World Geography: Enrichment in topics in World Geography is provided in Grades 6-8 through our affiliation with Mount St.
Mary's College.
Accelerated Reader: A computer-based program that provides comprehension assessment of leveled readers for every
student within every grade level.
Title I Remedial Reading Program: is provided for students who qualify from Kindergarten to grade 5.
Assessment
As a Los Angeles Archdiocesan elementary school, Saint Anne School participates in the annual Iowa Test of Basic Skills
(ITBS) assessment series. This standardized testing is conducted over a two week period annually in October and tests basic
skills in reading, language arts and mathematics.
